Hi subsribers and future subscribers, I'm so glad that my daughter's twistout has lasted 3 days. This style has been a great convenience for both me and my daughter. I twisted her hair into small 2 strand twists 2 1/2 weeks ago.
I maintained her twists daily by applying some shea butter and olive oil. On some days I spritzed her hair with my water, conditioner and oil mixture and added a careful rub of shea butter and oil down the shaft of her twists with special attention to the ends of her hair. Four days ago I unraveled her twists and let her wear her hair in a "twist out". I noticed that her hair was starting to look a little less defined around the twists near the center part on day 3 and the hair around the front of her hair line was beginning to look less defined.

In order to fix this I decided to spritz her hair with water conditioner oil mix, add some olive oil and shea butter and retwisted the fuzzy pieced along her hairline, perimeter of her face, and in the back of her head. I retwisted approximately 14-15 twists.

I've finally learned how to make a twist out last more than 3 days, just re-twist. I have to think of small twist outs as I think about my hair with braidouts. I generally rebraid every 2-3 nights if my hair looks fuzzy and less defined. Well on my daughter's hair I'm learning that I don't have to retwist her entire head. I can just retwist sections that are less defined. Wow! I'm excited that I'm on week 3 of a style created 2 1/2 weeks ago ( 2 strand twists) and on day 4 of a twistout that was refreshed on day 3. It can't get any better than this. This style is wake up and go style for my daughter, as the only thing that I need to do is add barettes to the front of her hair and then add moisture all over in the morning. For this I'm grateful! I believe I've practically met my goal this week of keeping my daughter's twist out looking good until the weekend. I'm clearly rejoicing before Friday!!!
Just speaking...
OMgosh...very cute. Her hair looks so pretty and the definition is amazing. I was just thinking yesterday about how to keep my twist out looking neat and defined beyond day TWO =) I'm lucky if I can get to day three of a twistout without having to re-twist. Planning to do small (not quite mini) twists this weekend and see how long I can keep them. Will have to give your technique a try by moisturizing daily with shea/oil to the twists. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteBarbara, your daughter is adorable! So her hair doesn't start to lock up at the root after not being combed for that long?
ReplyDeleteThanks Pat! I haven't had any issues with her hair locking up. I've left it twistedf for 2 weeks before and no issues. Maybe the spritz of conditioner plus my application of olive oil to her hair adds that extra bit of moisture and detangling- I think. Everyones hair is different but I've only seen growth with my daughters hair. Thanks for reading!
ReplyDeleteYour daughter is so nice :)
ReplyDelete@ Tam, Thanks. I'm wishing you long-lasting twists!
