I've been experimenting with a simple conditioner only wash and go. I love the definition that I get when a curl cream or conditioner is applied and I get volume, definition, and softness all in one swoop! Yesterday morning I got up and decided to grab a product that I've had for a while, the "Pantene Natural Curl Defining Conditioner". I'm not sure if they even still sale this same formulation. I just still have stuff from my product junkie runs to the store to try out something that I've seen online, and it ends up under the cabinet waiting on a day to be used. LOL! You know, a conditioner that's actually a rinse out conditioner, however I just wanted to use it off label.
I hopped in the shower, cowashed with this conditioner (since it's mid-week), then raked some more through my strands, and then applied olive oil to seal. I allowed my hair to air dry for about 15 minutes as I got dressed and did my morning routine of drinking water and tea. I then sat under the hooded dryer for 10 minutes and then used my hand held blow dryer to dry my roots for about 7-10 minutes.
It gave me day 3 of what my hair would have looked like had I used gel. I loved it actually!
Pros to conditioner only Wash and Go with Pantene Natural Curl Defining Conditioner:
-light curl definition
-softness that was unbelievable
-volume (no noodle hard looking hair here!)
-More length shows with this conditioner compared to using gel
- Hair dries faster with less product, therefore no gel meant a quicker drying time
- A large bottle of conditioner is less expensive than using curl cream/gel
Cons to conditioner only Wash and Go with Pantene Natural Curl Defining Conditioner:
-It didn't offer much hold
-Less Definition compared to using a gel
-Probably have to co-wash daily to maintain light definition
-I have to get up even earlier to manage my morning routine
Conclusion
I loved the look of my hair with the Pantene Natural Curl Defining Conditioner. I loved the way that my hair felt, it was pillow soft and so light that I didn't know that I had a head full of curls. The volume was amazing! My length showed more than ever, since I didn't get extreme shrinkage. I'm about ready to wake up early and get my co-wash on daily, well maybe until it gets cold. We shall see!

How to Do A Wash and Go 101
Your hair looks lovely. I have given up on wash n gos since my hair is 4c but I'm a fan of co-washing except when I want to use heat then I shampoo.
ReplyDeleteThanks Nylse! I'm like you, I use both of those methods to cleanse my hair too. I typically use shampoo once a week and then co-wash or use a sulfate free cleanser mid week. On the weekend, I use a regular shampoo that safe for color treated hair.
