Does any one else make conditioner runs? A conditioner run is when you leave the house to go out to buy conditioner. Sorry for the blurry photo, but I quickly snapped this picture with my camera phone the other day. I looked under the bathroom cabinet and realized that I only had a 1/2 bottle of conditioner left in the entire house.
That's just not good, because my natural hair relies on conditioner. I use it to conditioner wash (co-wash) my hair. I use the same conditioner as a leave-in before styling, and I use it in my spray bottle to mist my hair on a daily basis. I told my hubby that I would be right back, as I needed to grab a few things from the store. I felt that if I told him it was conditioner, he might not truly understand. So I hurried off to replenish my cabinets with the substance that coats, moisturizes, and shapes my curls daily. I returned with some groceries and my trusted bag of suave naturals conditioners. I have to remember always keep a conscious memory of how much conditioner is in the house. Suave naturals are inexpensive at $1.00 to no higher than $2.00 range for the larger bottles. I definitely appreciate the price because I use it frequently. I love my suave naturals conditioners and I use at least 3/4 of a bottle a week for co-washing, conditioning, leaving-in, and styling me and my daughter's hair. I stocked up with 5 bottles, so I'm set for a while, a month or so I suppose.
Just speaking

Just wondering if you get build-up from cowashing and then leaving the conditioner on your hair on a daily basis? I was thinking about trying the Suave apple conditioner but saw it had dimethicone in it. Supposedly "cones" coat the hair. Do you only cowash or do an occasional shampoo to remove any residue?
ReplyDeleteThanks.
Hi Tam, no I don't believe that I get buildup from co-washing. My hair feels soft and doesn't feel gunky. I co-wash 98% of the time with suave naturals conditioner. The one that I use doesn't have cones in it though, unless the cones are disguised under another name. I do stick to the "suave naturals" line and frequently use the juicy green apple conditioner in that line. The ingredients are: Water, Cetyl alcohol, cetrimonium chloride, fragrance, potassium chloride, distearydimonium chloride, disodioum edta, 2-bromo-2-Nitroprpane-1, 3-diol, tocopheryl acetate (Vitamin E acetate), propylene glycol, methylchloroisthiazolinone, pyrus malus (Apple) Fruit, methlisothiazolinone, pyrus malus (Apple) fruit, methylisothiazolinone, glycerin, yellow 5, and Blue 1.
ReplyDeleteI typically stay away from all products with "cones" in it since my big chop. I do admit that I do use products with cones on the rare occasion that I get my hair flat ironed (Which I did today and will be posting pics soon). I also use products with cones (hello hydration) to co-wash before a henna treatment. I do use a sulfate free shampoo on occasion- which is the "Tea tree tingle" sulfate free shampoo from Trader Joe's. It's really rare that I even use this shampoo, it's so infrequent that I can't even put a time line on it. In the summer when I swim more frequently, I always use it to cleanse my hair after getting out of the pool. I didn't have any breakage when swimming and using it, so I figured that it was getting the job done without the use of sulfates. So I just basically do a lot of co-washing, which works because I rarely ever use products with cones, mainly natural products. When you check out the conditioners, be sure to look at the "suave naturals line" and if I missed something let me know and I'll definitely look at cones in a new light.
Hi Barbara, thanks so much for the response. You know, now that I think more about it after reading the list of ingredients you posted for Suave, you're right. The day I was looking at the conditioners I was also checking out other brands as well and must have read dimethicone in one of the other brands. I'm always checking the labels of products I buy.
