The Results- A Twistout Puff
This weekend was a busy weekend errand wise and hair wise. I spent Saturday evening doing a henna treatment to my 1/2 inch of new gray strands peeking around the front of my hairline. After rinsing the henna I added some indigo and let it sit for 45 minutes.
This is quicker than applying henna to my entire head, as I save time by only applying to the new growth of my few gray strands that reappear monthly. Last night I decided to try a cornrowed twistout by twisting 8 sections of hair. I took a t-shirt and did a squeeze down the length of my hair to help remove as much moisture as possible.
Once twisted I applied some rollers to the ends. Then I decided to tie a scarf around the perimeter in hopes that my hair wouldn't be as poofy around the roots and with hopes that it would cause a stretched out effect on my hair so that it wouldn't be as shrunken in the morning. Well let's just say that it didn't look quite like I imagined it. When I unraveled my twists this morning my hair was pretty shrunken and tight as it usually is when I do a braidout or any style on wet hair. It was just extremely tight with the twistout. I've had success with twistouts on occasion in the past, but lately I think I just prefer my braidouts. For some reason I couldn't find my card of hair clamps so adding flat twists to the front was not an option. I decided to just turn it into a twistout puff. A twistout puff was easy to do after a botched twistout with large twists, because twistouts on my hair tend to look similar to a wash and go. I grabbed my trusted water spritz mixture, shea butter, and olive oil, applied them to the edges, brushed with my denman brush and then tied my scarf around the edges for 10 minutes. Hence, the result was a twistout puff. My lesson that I never seem to learn: Don't try new styles when I have somewhere important to go , like Church today. Then again puffs always work, afterall it's my go to hair style when a style doesn't go as planned. It's simply my plan B.
