Speak and Share- Adult Natural Hairstyles- Twist out

Submitted by: Adebukunola of IL

1.  How long have you been all natural (without any chemicals remaining in your hair)?

I have being natural for about 18months now.

2.  Speak about who or what inspired you to go natural.

A lot of my inspiration comes from seeing a friend of mine using Kinky curly on her daughter's natural hair. I could not believe natural hair could yield such results. I just had to have it. Of course Barbara, you're my biggest encourager and teacher. Love your hair always!

3.  What are your top 2 hairstyles since going natural?

I mostly do twist outs and in the summer, I love wash & gos with Eco Styler gel with olive oil

4.  What's your weekly routine and 3 favorite products used on a weekly basis?

I cowash once a week with either the suave natural conditioners or totally twisted. Then I deep condition with suave almond and shea butter and also use it as a leave in. Its cheap and very effective.

In the style above, I mixed my 3 ayurvedic treaments to the consistency of a paste, then I added it to my unwashed hair and covered with a shower cap for about an hour. I then rinsed off and cowashed with the suave line, and used suave almond and shea butter as a leave in. I did about 12 - 15 twists with coconut oil and I just loved the results. My hair was defined, moisturized and very soft.

5.  What's your current length?

I have being trimming a lot lately as I had a stint with heat. Did not go to a natural hair stylist so some parts of my ends did not curl back but for the most part, deep conditioning has really helped to restore it back. I think the length is about 7 inches.

6.  Speak about your biggest supporters since going natural.

My family has been great! And again, I love Barbara, I see her most Sundays and she's always cheering me on : )

7.  Did anyone discourage you along your natural journey?  If so how did you stay focused on your goal?

I don't really recall anyone discouraging me. My hubby was hesitant and excited at the same time. He loves change but did not know what to expect.

8.  Name one hairstyle and/ or product that you would like to try?

The Keracare line. Heard so much about it from another blogger.

9.  If you could speak to people in a word or sentence to describe "Why going natural was a great decision what would you say?  Speak to me!!!!

Oh my goodness, its being great, easy on the wallet and definitely allowed me to nurture my hair as I've never had before. Now I"m reading labels which I only do when I'm buying food from the grocery store, I'm moisturizing more and overall just a very conscious effort on how I tug and pull or what I add to my hair. Its being very liberating not to be stuck going to the beauty shop and waiting hours when I could be deep conditioning and cooking at the same time : ) My time is very precious to me so as soon as I got a good hand on handling my natural hair myself, I was happy. I could do it at my convenience and that's like a gift in itself: ) Don't hate the beauty shop. Not all of them waste your time.

Adebukunola is definitely working her natural hair.  Her twist outs are amazing and I look forward to seeing her and her swirls of curls.  She encourages me in that she pays attention to labels and creates some delicious meals, as she's the owner of Kaybee foods.  Kudos to the sisters with natural hair and healthy taste buds.  She's truly a lady who shares my interests- naturally.

Just speaking

  1. This is a terrific deep-penetrating conditioner. I really like the Keracare line because they cater to the needs of the black clients. This is an excellent product on my relaxed hair. It make my hair feel really moisturized, conditioned, and soft. I highly recommend the Humecto Creme Conditioner! It smells really nice too!
