Tangles After Removing Mini Twists From Daughter's Natural Hair

A few weeks ago I was raving about doing mini-twists on my daughter's hair.  It was a nice break for me, however it was a lesson learned.  I twisted smaller sections than I've ever twisted while looking forward to 2 weeks of nothing but moisturizing her hair.  Instead of letting my daughter wear her twists for 2 weeks, I went ahead and took them down after a week.  I took them down because they were starting to look a little too fuzzy.  Well when I started removing her twists, I noticed that her hair was so tangled that I might have to cut a portion to actually get some of her twists loose.  My niece actually helped and completed take down.  Once she got all of her twists removed she co-washed my daughter's hair with suave conditioner and didn't leave any conditioner in her hair.  Her hair turned out surprisingly soft when finished and she had cute ringlets to show for it last week (shown in photo above).  Last night I co-washed my daughter's hair and then added Giovanni direct as a leave in, some gel, and planned to style her hair in large twists.  It was late, so I decided to just form two puffs on wet hair.  I sat her under the hooded dryer for 20 minutes to dry.  If it would have been early I would have let her hair air dry.   I also knew that my daughter was sleepy and if she sleeps on her puffs while soaking wet, they'll be fuzzy without much curl definition.  She went to bed and they looked great this morning.  I do know one things for sure, I won't be doing mini- twists on her hair, they will have to be slightly larger next time.  I didn't get 2 weeks out of my daughter's twisted hairstyle, however I can say that we're successfully on week 2 of her puffs.  Hooray to puffs! and Hooray to conditioner and a large tooth comb that help greatly with detangling natural hair.

Have you had any issues with tangling when hair is twisted in smaller sections?  Also please share your favorite product(s) for twisting.
