Organizing My Home And Closets

Over the years, I've realized that organizing my home is essential to my emotional and physical well being.  When my husband and I first purchased our home 16 years ago, it was just the two of us.  Well 3 children later, I fully understand the importance of organization.  I'm currently on vacation, so I have a few weeks to get my house in order.  One of my major projects in the summer is organizing my home.  Today my intention is to declutter and clear a chair and my closet.

For the past few weeks, I've been tossing clothing here when trying to decide on an outfit and then nothing ever gets put back.  I managed cleaning this chair by doing the following.

1.  I went through my closet and placed all of the clothing that I haven't worn in a few years in a large garbage bag.  This instantly cleared up space to hang clothing that I actually wear.

2.  I placed all clean clothing on a hanger and placed it in my closet.

3.  I placed all of the dirty clothes on the chair in the basket with dirty clothes.

4.  I pulled all items off of the top shelf of my closet that I no longer had use for.  I  placed papers and plastic items in a bag to go in the recycle bin.  I placed other items in a bag for donations or either in a bag for trash.

5.  I worked for 2 hours and then took all items to the salvation army, except for items that I could give to family and friends.  I will deliver those bags tomorrow.

My goal is to complete organizing and cleaning my closet on tomorrow.  Finding the time to do a summer cleaning and organization is a necessity for me.  I feel happy and cheerful when I see clear space that's not filled with clutter.  This is still a constant challenge for me.  A few years ago, I found a great organizer by searching for one at the National Organization of Professional Organizers.  It's a useful tool to find an organizer near you. If you're looking for someone in the Chicago and Chicago Suburban area, Amy Trager is amazing! She got my entire house in order, including my children's rooms, the garage, dining room, kitchen, and closets.  She easily helped me get rid of things that were no longer needed and just taking up space.  She worked quickly and efficiently.  In fact, I already know that if I don't get everything done within the next week or so, I'll be calling her soon.  In the meantime, I'm using what she taught me to get rid of stuff that's reaccumulated.  The good thing is I found some items that I forgot I had, like a brand new bottle of Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie!

Are you trying to organize or declutter any areas of your home?  Post a pic and let me know what room you're working on, and if you found something that you didn't realize you had.  Keep your curls intact, you can do it!
