The Benefits of Coconut Oil For Curly Hair, Dogs, And Internal Consumption

Coconut oil is amazing on my hair and skin!  Well after adopting a dog a year ago, I found out that this oil is great for furry pooches as well.  My dog absolutely loves coconut oil.  I apply it to her fur and skin at least once a week.  It gives her coat a beautiful shine!  She also loves the smell and taste of coconut oil.  When she gets bored with the flavor of her food, or sometimes just wants a healthy treat, I add a tablespoon full to her kibble.  She loves the flavor and gobbles it right up.

I use coconut oil faithfully on my hair and scalp, and on my daughter's hair as a pre-poo.  A pre-poo is basically a pre-treatment prior to cleansing the hair to help detangle or condition.  Basically before washing my hair, I smooth and finger-comb coconut oil through my strands.  It works like a magic detangler for me, as that's the one product that glides through and detangles my hair when it's in a dry state.  I always cover my hair with a plastic cap or grocery store bag (#recyclingforacause) and then let it sit for 15 minutes or overnight prior to washing.  It really acts as a protein treatment.  The results include hair that's strong, grows, and shines, without dandruff.

In my home we also use coconut oil as an all over body moisturizer.  Sometimes we use lotion and sometimes we use coconut oil.  I use it to condition my eyebrows at night, hoping to achieve fuller brows.  I also rub it into my cuticles to decrease dryness and hangnails.  I also use it on my lips when I need moisture at night, and also to remove my eyeshadow.  It's also been used in my home to treat athlete's foot.

There are reportedly several health benefits to taking coconut oil internally.  As mentioned above my dog loves it, however I don't quite care for the flavor.  I might me adding a spoon daily soon, especially after learning that it can assist with weight loss, and stabilize blood sugar.  Check with your doctor before using, as these are the results of my personal research and use.  If you're allergic don't try this at home.  As for my family, we actually keep 2 bottles on hand at all times, one for my dog, and another bottle for the family as a conditioner and all over body moisturizer.  I purchase this large bottle from Sam's Club.

Do you use coconut oil for yourself, family, or for your dog?  If so, do tell.

BTW: I need to invest in another yoga mat for my dog.  She loves to play on it after having her coconut oil applied.
