Mini Twists Means Free Time For Mama

I had a busy weekend, but yet I managed to put in some time on my daughter's hair on Sunday night.  I keep continuing to do styles on my daughter's hair that don't require much daily maintenance.  I also want to protect the ends of her hair and nourish them so that her hair can continue to grow.  So I decided to do mini twists on her hair.  I washed her hair with a sulfate free shampoo.  Next I conditioned her hair, and then combed through some giovanni direct leave-in conditioner.  I think I'm hooked on this new conditioner.  It detangled my daughter's hair beautifully.  Her hair seems to like this leave-in, as it just seems to add a little extra nourishment to her strands.  I parted her hair down the middle and twisted 8 large sections.  I started at the back and I ran the blow dryer lightly across her twist to dry it until slightly damp.  Next I added a little coconut oil and rubbed it down each strand.  I followed the coconut oil with a small amount of ORS lock and twist gel before twisting her hair into small sections.

It took me 2 1/2 hours to complete this style.  I kept her busy by having her count in Spanish and play her Dora Snow Princess game on her Nintendo DSI.  She actually fell asleep when I was twisting the last section.  Instead of leaving her hair down while she slept I decided to pull all of her twists up into a loose scrunchy and secured her hair on top of her head.  My daughter's a wild sleeper and if I would have left it down, I had a feeling that the left side would have been permanently standing upwards when she woke up the next morning (LOL!).  When she woke up this morning I just pulled a few twists down to serve as tendrils on the side and pulled the rest up.  I just took a small amount of coconut oil and lightly rubbed across and through her twists in the morning and before bed to keep her hair moisturized.  I enjoy the flexibility of leaving her twists down, adding rollers to create spirals, or pulling them back into a ponytail.  Here's a view of the back of her twists.
I tried to take a picture of the front of her hair, however my daughter decided that she wanted to throw in some poses and was to busy giggling to get a good picture of the front.  She's so cheerful, here's her laughing and posing.
Yep, I'm loving these styles that protect the hair and don't need a lot of daily maintenance.  Mini-twists means free time for Mama to get herself together in the mornings, which really means 5 extra minutes to find some one's missing shoe (LOL)!  Did anyone else do a protective style on their child's hair this week?  What style is he/ she sporting?
