I've found my holy grail (HG) in Shea Moisture's line of products. I've mainly used shea moisture products on my hair for the past year and a half. I previously mixed and blended my own curly moisturizing cream and refresher prior to getting hooked on Shea Moisture, however when I researched Shea Moistures product line, I realized that the ingredient list looked much like my own hand made concoctions. It became easier to purchase pre-mixed products than trying to constantly blend a curl moisturizer for my curly hair. I used the same products to create a wash and go on my hair and my daughter's hair. Here's how I do it:
1. Pre-poo with coconut oil. I part my hair down the middle. Next I apply coconut oil to my hands and use it to detangle while finger combing the oil through my hair. I also massage a little oil into my scalp and then cover with a plastic cap (often a plastic shopping bag) for 10- 30 minutes. Remove cap and rinse.

2. I wash with Suave Professional Almond Plus Shea Butter shampoo if I need a deep cleanse. If I need to cleanse and maintain moisture I use "Shea Moisture Coconut and Hibiscus Curl and Shine Shampoo" to cleanse my hair. It's great for not fading the small amount of color that I use to cover my gray hairs along my hairline. The key to washing natural hair is to wash and detangle by constantly running fingers downward through the hair to limit and avoid tangles. Rinse.
3. To condition, I finger comb Shea Moisture Coconut and Hibiscus Curl and Shine Conditioner through my hair and the ends of my hair. Cover with a plastic cap while taking care of shower duties. Rinse conditioner with cool water. I leave my hair sopping wet (LOL! If this is a real word) and then the water is removed as I finger comb each product through my hair. Basically, I don't squeeze water out of my hair when rinsing and this is best done by applying all styling products in the shower.
4. Quick tip on application method: with hair still parted down the middle, I apply my hair products in sections. Imagine that my hair is parted into 4 quadrants, down the middle and then ear to ear. I make sure that when applying products I focus on finger combing products through from top to bottom, and then divide each quadrant in half and apply products from scalp to ends, if that makes sense. Once I apply each product, I flip my head over and apply from base of neck to the ends and then flip my head back over to apply the next product. It ensures even coverage of product.
5. I apply a small amount of Shea Moisture Coconut and Hibiscus Curl and Style Milk using the method described in 4 above. I use this product as my leave in conditioner. It adds great moisture.
6. After applying curl and style milk, I apply Shea Moisture Coconut and Hibiscus Curl Enhancing Smoothie using the application method that I described in #4. Curl enhancing smoothie enhances my curl pattern by embracing it with moisture and a very soft hold.
7. Next I apply, Shea Moisture Coconut and Hibiscus Curling Gel Souffle, by finger combing it through and then flipping my head over and applying it from base to ends to ensure full distribution, as described above. This product helps my hair to hold its curls and moisture for 6-7 days before I have to redo my wash and go.
8. Last step, I apply a very small amount of Extra Virgin Olive Oil using the same method.
9. Air dry or sit under a hooded dryer for 20 -30 minutes.
10. Use diffuser to stretch hair at the roots and to shape hair a little more if desired.
My wash and go feels amazingly soft! My hair holds the curls for a week, which I preserve by pineappling at night! I can wear my curls in a wash and go, a low puff, or a high puff, or any other curly style. I get the same result on my daughter's hair. Shea moisture is our HG!
What's your HG and technique for wash and go's?
