My 9 year old daughter's hair has always been long. No one would ever know it when they see her curly puff or wash and go's. Why? Because natural hair shrinkage is real, and she has major shrinkage, like her mom, and like many naturally haired people. Some people with curly hair have looser curl patterns, however that's not the case in my household.
I roller set and flat ironed her hair once when she was about 4, and it bounced right back to tightly curly after a wash. On another occasion, I blow dried and dusted her hair. It's amazing how people without knowledge of curly hair types truly believe that my daughter's hair is short, at least until I stretch it out for them.
