Drum Village |
I had an awesome time at the African Festival of the arts here in Chicago, IL during Labor Day Weekend. This festival lasts 3 days annually and is held in Washington Park located on the South Side of Chicago. It's purpose is to give attendees the opportunity to experience a simulated African village across the diaspora via interactive activities, viewing of art and artifacts, quilts, african dolls, film, literature, fabric, textile, furniture pieces, and by experiencing an african drum village, food court, entertainment, and marketplace. I wanted to sample food that I hadn't had in a while like curry goat and rice, that I haven't tasted since college, as my Nigerian friends mother would make a ton of it and she would always share. Yum! I did get to enjoy ox tails, red beans and rice, and plantains! Lord it took me back. It was delicious!!! I also got to get some dancing in, as I stepped a little while there. I also found some great finds, such as shea butter, dresses, t-shirts, and beautiful earrings. Enjoy the pics!
