I had heard about different brands of the sponge that creates locs, curls, and waves, however had no idea how this works. I was curious to see what all the fuss was about and if this "sponge" really worked. I purchased 2, one for each of my sons. Let's just say that one sponge didn't last, because our 1 year old lab found it laying on the living room table, and mistook it for one of her dog toys. LOL! The sponges come in different sizes, one with larger wholes, and the other with slightly smaller wholes. Anyway, my sons love the magic twist, as that's the one that we found at our local beauty supply. They swirl it around over their hair every morning to get these defined little locs and curls.
I tell my son pictured above to apply a little curl creme and then use the sponge, however he's always rushing and doesn't feel that it's necessary. Teenagers! He has used curl creme a couple of times though. Some barbers recommend using pomade or even spritz for hold, however I believe that curl creme or pomade with water gives a good moisturized look. I stay away from holding products, because alcohol can cause breakage over time. My son's hair holds all day without any holding product. It's interesting because his mohawk grows constantly and his main routine is to wash it nightly in the shower and then use the sponge in the morning.
Have you or anyone you know used a sponge to create little locs and curls? If so, what product if any did you or the person use before using the sponge?
