Remembering Prince Rogers Nelson

Today is a day of remembrance.  I can't help but to think about Prince.   He was a musical genius born Prince Rogers Nelson on June 7, 1958.  Today I think about him because this day a year ago, April 21st was the day that I first heard news of his death in the media.  I mourned as if I'd known him personally, as I watched many people gather around Paisley Park to leave balloons, teddy bears, and shed a tear for the purple one.  In a way I felt like I did know him, because I had listened to his music since I was a little girl.  I remember when Purple Rain came out and I actually still have a VHS tape of the movie.  I grew up singing his music.  His songs were cool, melodic, and sensual.  His look was eccentric at times, however he always owned his look.  If everyone walked around looking and sounding the same, life would be so boring.  One things for sure, we never had to worry about anything being mundane when it came to Prince.

He had a unique style, that was truly all his own.  I still listen to his music today.  My play list is filled with "The Very Best of Prince" album, which includes some of his greatest hits like "Purple Rain", "1999", Raspberry Beret", "Little Red Corvette", and "When Doves Cry" to name a few.  Right before he passed away I heard one of his later songs "1000 hugs and kisses" and almost lost it! I love that song because I like to "step" and it's just hot, including the beats, the rhythm, and the words! I heard that unreleased music will be dropped later today, however it looks like a law suit was filed by his estate in an attempt to stop the release of the new album "Deliverance".  I guess we'll know for sure as the day goes on.  If and when any new music is released, I will definitely be sampling it.

I'm so grateful that I got a chance to see him in concert as well.  His performance was just awesome! I could tell that Prince mastered his craft.  He loved music and it showed in his lyrics, his music, his dance, and in his overall performance!

Like Prince, take a moment to Live, Love, and Dance oh, and keep your natural hair looking Princetabulous!

Yep, I'm still listening to Prince's music while wearing my favorite color- Purple!
