The past month has been extremely trying as multitasking and lack of time has taken over. This Saturday my hair was in deep need of a henna treatment despite the fact that my days and weekends seem to be packed with kiddie cab duties, homework assistance duties, laundry duties, meal planning, and attempting to meet a million work deadlines. Anyways, I was truly in need of a 2 step henna / indigo process. I desperately needed to add some conditioning and color back into my hair. God knows that those pesky gray hairs around my hairline needed some refreshing.
On Saturday my boys had guitar practice and then to top it off my daughter's friend had a fashion show dress up birthday party scheduled on Saturday as well. Now my hair needed a henna treatment and I decided that I would pull this off during the day. For those unfamiliar with henna, it's a natural and safe alternative to adding color to hair without PPD's. PPD is the acronym for paraphenylenediamine, an ingredient found in most hair dyes that has been discussed frequently concerning a possible link to cancer.
Henna is an alternative used by many within the natural hair community, as it is known for it's ability to condition and add thickness to hair. Even with henna it's also a good idea to do a patch test for overall safety and to avoid any chance of an allergic reaction. It can be time consuming as henna needs to sit on the hair for 2-4 hours. It give red undertones in sunlight, however it turns gray hairs a burnt-orange color. This basically means that I have to then mix up indigo ( the same plant powder responsible for adding color to blue jeans) and add it to my hair and leave it on for another hour. My solution was to multitask and incorporate my henna indigo treatment into my regular day.
I washed my hair and applied the henna throughout my hair for a full head treatment. Next I wrapped saran wrap around my hair, then placed a shower cap over my entire head. Then I basically searched my closets for a hat that would cover my head completely. This little black hat did the trick. It covered my entire head and I took my daughter to her friends party with my hat nicely secured. I just added a shiny lip gloss, eye shadow, and big earrings to pull off this look.
I enjoying watching my daughter and her friends dress up in cute gowns for their pretend fashion show. As for me, my costume for Saturday was Just "Henna In Disguise".
Have you ever gone out in public with a henna or any type of hair treatment on your hair? If so, how did you disguise your hair treatment?
