I think I've finally found the best combination of products to use for a wash-and-go on my color treated hair. I've been trying different products the past few weeks. Honestly my hair has changed slightly since dyeing my hair. It definitely feels dryer than it did before having color and highlights done. I've been on youtube lately, and the consensus among gurus is to use a sulfate free shampoo, use a good conditioner, apply products that are safe on color treated hair, and deep condition and/ or use protein treatments on a regular basis. Today I think I found my new holy grail products for a wash-and-go, because my hair looks and feels super soft! Yay! This is what I did on wash day:
1. Pre-poo with coconut oil. I spritzed my hair with water and then finger combed coconut oil through my tresses. Tied it atop my head and wrapped it in a plastic cap ( well, a plastic grocery store bag and secured the handles at the back of my head with a scrunchie). I let this concoction set for 30 minutes while I cooked.
2. Rinsed hair in shower with water.
4. Conditioned hair with "Deva Curl - One Condition". I combed it through my hair and let it marinate while I showered. I then rinsed it out with cool water.
5. Applied "Deva Curl- One Condition to hair sparingly section by section. I finger combed the product through my hair to condition and moisturize each section as my leave-in of choice (I've also substituted Giovanni Direct Leave- In as my leave-in conditioner on one occasion, and the results were still great moisturized and soft hair).
6. Finger combed Eco Styler Gel With Olive Oil through each section of my hair. Let products air dry approximately 30 minutes between cleaning shower and getting dressed.
7. Applied a quarter sized amount of jojoba oil to the palms of my hands. Next, I evenly distributed the jojoba oil by finger combing it through my hair lightly, quickly applying a little to each section once.
8. Sat under the hooded dryer for 30 minutes on cool air, low setting.
9. Diffused hair with handheld hair dryer with diffuser attachment for approximately 15 minutes on cool air setting on low. Diffused by placing hair in ends of diffuser nozzle and then directing hair to scalp in a scrunching method, and holding dryer there for 10 seconds. I repeated for each section of hair. Then I turned my head upside down, and directed air towards the roots in each section until hair was 90% dry. I allowed the hair to air dry the rest of the way.
10. Results are soft, defined curls with no crunch.
Again, I think I've found my holy grail products for my wash and go on color treated hair! I'm loving these results. I used Eco styler olive oil gel instead of the Deva Curl Light Defining Gel because I only had a small amount of the Deva Curl light Defining Gel left. I only had a small sampler bottle that I had purchased 3 years ago, and I didn't have enough of the light hold gel to apply to all of my hair. I googled eco gel first though to see if it paired well with the "one condition". I think deep down, I was subconsciously trying to save money by seeing if the gel that I have stocked in the house works. Plus it's very affordable. LOL!
*I actually wrote this post a few weeks ago, however just editing it. I've washed my hair again since, and still got soft moisturized curls for my color-treated hair. Yep, I think Deva Curl is my new holy grail!
